THE NIGHTWATCH RESEARCH PROJECT
Rembrandt van Rijn's Nightwatch is a painting of unprecedented status. Not only as a masterpiece, but also as a binding symbol of Dutch culture. The Nightwatch Research Project wants to expose the significance of this painting through the eyes of contemporary artists. In order to achieve this, a number of reputed artists were selected to give their interpretation of Rembrandt's Nightwatch. The only requirements being to maintain the format (363 x 437 cm) and to respect the dynamics of the original composition. For the rest, the artists were given free rein.
